Car Accident!

I was in Austin all of last week for a training course for work. On Thursday morning, my coworker decided we should leave at 7 (even though the other two of us thought sleeping in would be a much better idea!).
We had an argument, being that the third coworker doesn't drive, because she wanted to leave super early AND she wanted to sit in the back and play on her laptop. Excuse me, but I was out until 4 last night so I will be sleeping in the back. End of discussion.

Some time later, I woke up but didn't know why... then I sat up and realized that both windows on my side were broken out, and there was no longer a side mirror... my coworkers were crying, apparently we had been hit really hard. I looked back and a giant maintenance truck had hit us, and the guy opened his door and just fell out of the truck. So he had been hurt pretty bad.

Our fleet vehicle (provided by our employer) was totaled, it was a 2009 Impala too. I had to take care of everything myself even though I didn't know what happened until hours later since I had been sleeping. My coworkers became practically useless when it came to getting things done.

Apparently the coworker that was driving decided to take a left out of the far right lane in a 5-lane street. The guy who hit us was going about 45 (speeding) and smashed in the entirety of the left side of the car. So we were at fault of course.

In the end, we waited 7 hours in a Starbucks for a tow truck to drive from Oklahoma to Austin to deliver a new car and pick up the broken car. Then I got the pleasure of driving the new car back up to Oklahoma. What a day.

Considering it looks like your vehicle got the worst of it, I'm superbly happy that you all are okay. I hope the guy in the maintenance truck wasn't hurt too badly.

It wasn't your Smart, so there's another thing to be thankful for.

You can always count on yourself but can't always count on others. Keep driving safe.

I hope your future journeys are much less eventful!

Yes, all 3 of us were lucky to have only minor injuries. We all got cuts from glass getting inside our clothes, the driver has bruises on her head from where she hit the door frame, the passenger has whiplash because she saw it coming and braced herself. I have a sprained shoulder but our university has great worker's comp so we are completely taken care of. We also got a good amount of administrative leave from our department, super nice of them.

Luckily I didn't break my legs, because they were bent and pressed flat against the door that got hit first.

I try to add humor too often... Since you're under 5' in height, if you were taller by, say, half a foot, you might have broken your legs if you were taller, cramped in the seat more. There are times when just being the way we are can get us out of jams.

Yay for the small things!
