Okay ... so arrange the mechanism to only electrolyze when the car is decelerating.

Saves your brakes, and your gasoline.

The downside is if you are decelerating, then you don't need the oxyhydrogen. You would need to store the gas produced for later use when you are actually pressing on the pedal. Bummer ...
