Cell phone use while driving?

Here's some video that makes the point: msnbc.com Video Player

Might be tied to the "rear ended at 45 mph" thread; an obvious reason for someone plowing into a stopped vehicle.

Agreed - one of my pet peeves is someone hanging on the phone, left lane, 15 mile per hour above or below the speed limit (make a choice between the speeds, I seem to see both).

I've been saying it for some time now, texting is the root of all evil. OK, maybe not that bad - but texting and driving don't mix.

Texters are about 60% slower to react to driving situations than drunks.......

I let the phone ring and pull over at the next convenient site if I feel the call might be important that I have to answer it right away. Otherwise, I'll wait until I get to my destination to check the voice mail. When I see people driving and talking on their phones, I stay back a good long distance or pass them if it looks fairly safe to do so.

Only on a bluetooth headset, and RARELY! Even then it's only for a quick minute to relay something important, like I'm running late for work because traffic is a parking lot AGAIN on Interstate 5! When I see people talking on their handsets, while driving in the fast lane, and going 10 mph under the speed limit, I wish a had a cell phone phaser that I could just aim at their cell phone and FRY IT!! Then...... they wouldn't have a cell phone to talk on while driving anymore!

I try and relate it to the period BCF (before cell phones.) Did I call anyone to tell them the airplane just landed? Did I call to ask what to buy in the store? Did I call to tell anyone I'd be early or late? Obviously not, and no one was the worse off for it. Hands on or hands free, the distraction level is apparently the same (see today's news for cell phone use while driving data that was withheld by NHTSA.)

Cell phone use while driving - just say no.

safe driving can be fun - seems strange but the folks at ZoomSafer seem to have a new solution that keeps users focused on the on the road yet connected to their friends, family and social networks.

I've never owned a cell phone, and never will as long as it is possible to avoid it. That should be the rest of my life. I feel like I'm in a Sci-Fi movie most of the time, watching people driving, walking, shopping, sitting on the beach, eating in restaurants ... you name it, always talking on the telephone. It is totally bizarre!! Everywhere you go, people have this obsession to be constantly in touch, no matter what they're doing. In my mind it is an illness.

Yes, I'm serious.

Who needs a cell phone when you have a stylized metal "A" pinned to your shirt that you can just tap to communicate with whomever?
