Chevy Volt = shocking sticker price!

From Automotive News:

"General Motors expects its gasoline-electric Chevrolet Volt to come to market in 2010 priced close to $40,000, say sources close to the project. That's pricey compared with rivals such as the Toyota Prius hybrid, but taxpayers may help lower that sticker. GM is lobbying Congress to create tax credits benefiting "extended-range electric vehicles" such as the plug-in Volt, says GM...."

all that for a not so green technology!

No surprise there; completely unreasonable price, plus the volt is hardly a plug in electric when it has an on board gas engine. It's electric only range is estimated at around 40 miles - or a thousand dollars per mile. It is a huge car with what appears to be a lot of wasted space, IMHO. If Honda can bring in the Fit hybrid for around $2K more than the gas powered version there will be lots of Chevy volts languishing on dealers' lots.

I've been hoping for a Volt as my next car after the smart, but at that price, I may have to rethink it. I've got a 60-month loan on my smartie, so I'll just wait and see what's available in 2013. Maybe there will be an electric smartie by then at a reasonable price (although I really would like to buy American if I can).

I'm having so much fun, I may never want another make of car anyway!

Yeah, GM really knows how to compete with Toyota! haha, Don't these idiots get it the economy is bad, fuel is expensive people don't want to spend 40K on a hybrid, Learn from Toyota, make the Hybrid affordable and unique looking and it will sell..GM has designed some god aweful cars lately, like the HHR and that other 2 seater pick-up, They seemed to do this in an attempt to catch up to Chrysler's success with the PT cruiser and the 300 but whoever gave the go ahead to those 2 vehicles should be fired. Now GM is hyping up this new Camaro that is going to have such a niche market, about 10 years ago they should have plopped a re-vamped 57 chevy body on a Malibu chasis and sold it for $19,000, they would have killed instead they are gonna re-introduce the Camaro and charge 40G's. They should stick a electric motor in the Aveo and sell it for $19,000. Hard to support Detroit when they have their heads up their a$$es!

Buy Californian...Aptera is taking reservations now... cost will be arond $26 or 29K (all elec or hybrid). The all electric gets 120 mi to a charge, plug in for 2-3 hours go another 120 mile. The hybrid version is estimated to get 300 MPG's. For you speed demon's, believe 0-60 time is about 13 sec.

Mine is on order, expect it to be ready for delivery in 2009. All 2008's have been spoken for.

They are built right here in Carlsbad, CA !!!

Check out Aptera

I was excited and ready to go home and plunk down my $500 reservation - then I saw that it was limited initially to California. Cool car, great design, and when it's available - it's MINE!
