Cold-weather EV range issue solved

A new chemical composition allows for excellent EV battery performance down to -60°C. Here are the details:

Gas electrolyte keeps very cold batteries running

Now for the rant:

Great, pressurized gas in the batteries! Now we no longer need them to overheat to explode!
Oh, and it's highly flammable - which isn't much different from traditional organic electrolytes - but a flammable compressed gas is a lot more volatile than a flammable liquid. As a bonus, it generates HF when it burns.

Seems that the only plus on the safety side is that it may help prevent one cause of fires. But it's exponentially worse if involved in a fire not caused by itself - that never happens, right?

Using hydroflurocarbons, an ozone layer depleting chemical, as an electrolyte seems unwise. However, go fundamental research!
