Pennsylvania ranks third, according to State Farm list

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- In West Virginia, where there's roughly one deer for every two people and the largest city boasts an annual deer hunt within its boundaries, it's no surprise the animals pose a common hazard for motorists.

Insurance giant State Farm yesterday added some hard numbers to back up the anecdotal impression, naming West Virginia the likeliest state for vehicle crashes involving deer.

Pennsylvania isn't far behind its southern neighbor -- the Keystone State ranks third . . . . .

I dodged two sets of two last night on the way home! My smart got its deer badge last year, so I hope to make it deer free this year. Knock on wood...

Unluckiest deer in Illinois hit by car every 26 seconds

According to a TGDaily article, it is Illinoise that has the unluckiest deer with one being hit every 26 seconds.

I did not want to show the other photo they had.

I have heard of people in up state New York who actually aim for the deer. They reinforce the front ends of their vehicles so it is not damaged. I believe they do it to supplement their food they buy from stores.

I was once hit by a deer. I was not in my Smart. It was years before they came to the USA. I say it hit my car since it came in from the side of the road and hit the side of my car. It shattered the drivers side window and broke the rearview mirror on that side. I was not hurt even though the glass bits showered around my hands. The deer ran off. Since it was dark, I could not see if it was injured or not.

I think that word "Safari" had something to cause the 3 events.

A few years ago when I was still living in southern Ohio I had a deer run into my passenger side rear quarter panel (2000 Ford F-250) and then a week or so later as my truck was being repaired I hit another one with the rental truck (2003 Ford F-150). My last three years living in Ohio I had a deer accident every year...
