- Chrysler Group, battling a 46 percent plunge in U.S. sales, is offering consumers as much as $4,500 on most of its 2009 models

"Double CA$H for Your Old Car" provides as much as $4,500 cash or 0 percent financing for 72 months on qualifying new vehicles, even if the consumer's trade-in doesn't qualify for the federal incentive.

The program starts Thursday and runs through August, Chrysler said today. The new offer replaces all current incentives, which were to have run through July 31.

"We didn't want consumers without qualifying vehicles to feel left out, so we are offering up to $4,500 to everyone," said Steven Beahm, Chrysler's vice president for sales operations.

What I don't get about Chrysler being in such a hole is this........ I believe it was Road and Track who recently completed a survey of Chrysler 300 owners, and 85 % of them were sufficiently impressed with their car that they'd buy another Chrysler product. That's some heady stuff. It was also pointed out in another magazine that FIAT is no longer in the "fix it again Tony" category, and anything coming stateside from them will be competitive, to say the least. Good times.........

My ten year old dodge truck has had no problems other than a blower fan at 9 years and two vacuum check valves.

Odd, cause we had tried to stick w/Chrysler years ago, but on DAkota and one step van later, one New Yorker for my FIL and one Caravan for a cousin and all of us had tranny's go after less than 35k miles tells us that Chrysler is doing something WRONG.

That put us onto European cars, and we've not gone back.

I have a number of Chryslers between my family and I. All have been better than average.
FYI SmartUSA sent out a e-mail tonight they are offering Smarts for $99 a month with a Clunker trade......not a bad deal.
