i got the weekly Elio "newsletter" yesterday, they're still high on what they're smoking. they're all pumped for the Detroit show... Brother Paul's Traveling Smoke/Mirror Show.

And they will keep up the smoke & mirrors until the day they file bankruptcy... They don't have any money, and don't want those folks with refundable deposits asking for their money back...

Once they file, they will probably be under the protection of the bankruptcy, and not have to pay anybody back...

look at it this way, he might be able to sell the design to one of the majors, if it does get close to what he says it will do. like 75mpg, and the majors will sell it for $11-13K.

If you were really serious about producing something like this, you wouldn't be paying yourself the profits before you even started production. It takes real hard work and determination to make something like this happen. You would be investing in the business and getting things moving on a smaller level.

Heck, at that kind of payment rate, he could hire some craftsmen to produce limited runs out of a pole shed out in the midwest. Cripes since it's classified as a motorcycle in Nebraska, you'd be able to get around all kinds of safety regs unique to the automotive industry and produce it as such. If a prototype of this could be had, I guarantee you that you could get a bunch of welders and fabricators and pay 'em in beer and after several weekends in a pole barn, you'd start seeing some units being produced. Even if they were just prototypes, people would be clamouring for them. You build a few at a time, sell them, keep reinvesting and building the business, etc. That's a grass roots level of how you build the business from nothing and keep it growing. This malarky of taking people's money in advance for something that is never going to be produced from the likes of Elio and his ilk is just smoke and mirrors to pad his pockets. It's a con game through and through and if people haven't seen through it already, they are gullible fools - letting their hopes and dreams cloud reality of the here and now.

Have they ever had a functioning running prototype that went more than 10 mph? In the time and all the money people have spent waiting for the Elio, they could have built a fleet of tri-magnums which is the next closest thing. Heck, all rqriley has done is sell plans and more gets done with that than this LSD-trip Elio-wagen hocus pocus dog and pony show...

He has nothing to sell! There's nothing proprietary about what he's done. Any "major" could pull together better technology and design from their own parts bins. But the chance of anything remotely near his preposterous claims is – in round numbers – zero. Would any major want to attach their name to a deathtrap like that? Too much to lose for too microscopic of an ultra-niche market.
