Exhausts etc............

I'm just gonna throw this out here, and see what everyone thinks. I've perused all the aftermarket exhaust systems, and from what I can see, ALL are doomed to fail. The placement of the flex pipe as done by the factory is necessary to allow the engine to move in relation to the frame mounted muffler. Unless the aftermarket exhausts are built to this design, the head pipe or the muffler is going to be in constant bind or flex in relation to the engine, causing an inevitable mount failure. (or catalytic converter flange failure) Anyone else see this?

I do not think this posts belong here (maybe in modification section). But to answer your question, ALL new redesigned versions of aftermarket exhausts including Breathless, DT, Genius, Borla, etc. including flex pipe or some other kind of flex connector. Problem solved........

Not to be bothersome, but putting the flex pipe or slip joint between the driverside hanger and the muffler solves nothing. The muffler and it's mounts have to be free to pivot when the engine rocks. The designs with the headpipe, hanger and then flexpipe still are in constant tension/flex when the engine rocks. The passenger side hanger is safe. Half solved.

I believe that the Remus system will not fail. First, the flex section is much larger than any of the other systems. check out the picture in the link. Second, and perhaps more importantly, the system (like all Remus products) have been given approval by the Austrian Gutezichen quality board and the German TUV organization. In Europe you just can't go ahead and sell parts for cars; they must meet all regulatory and safety standards. Results of extensive testing have to be done by the company (to government standards) and then submitted for approval. No pass=No sale.

Part of the reason the Remus exits below the bumper is that in order to have such a large (just like the OEM piece) flex section, it has to hang the muffler (which is large to meet strict loudness requirements) behind the valence, leaving no room for higher-mounted tips. The other reason is that they can't sell a system that forces modification of the original bodywork. They would have to get approval for a new valence to be sold with the muffler that has the necessary cutouts. Approval would mean crash-testing, driving the cost even higher.

the roadster exhaust is a solid with no flex pipe and after 5 years is as good as new, the exhaust is hung onto the bottom of the engine so that when the engine rocks so does the exhaust, problem solved.
Shame they did'nt think of this for the 451.

Possible, but I owned original V1 solid Breathless exhaust and now I have Genius with a flex pipe. Flex pipe design is very nice implemented and near stock OEM quality. I do not see why this design should fail if it is similar to stock BUT weights almost 2-3 times less (less stress).
