Ford Model T - 100 Years Later

Ah, . . . brings back memories. Our rural mailman drove one of these. And my father was a trusted mechanic who drove the new cars from Detroit into Ohio.

Yep - I'm that old.

When it crawled down the ledges I thought about those wooden rims, stronger than I thought they were.

Nice history reminder (we should all know about the Model T by now)

I've got a couple buddies with T's. Oddly enough I'm received into their club meets with open arms despite my old car being modified. They are old enough to have driven them when they were a few years old. The owners were established business owners, politicians etc back when my dad was a kid in the late 40's early 50's.

Love them T's. But like the A's better.

Yes, but having T's and A's are the ultimate in auto ownership.

I have 3 Model Ts and they are a ball. I got the first one in 1986, it is a 1926 touring (4 door convertable). My second is a 1910 speedster that I built from 1987 to 1989. A speedster is the hot rod of it's day. The last is a 1926 4 door sedan aquired about 1995.

I have driven about 40,000 miles in a "T". The longest single trip was a tour that we shipped 15 "Ts" to Mazatlan, toured for a day than took the ferry to La Paz and drove to Los Angeles, about 1300 miles. I have driven across Death Valley and to the top of Pikes Peak. Like the video shows, Model Ts will go anywhere.

Bum-bling, Model As are alright but I have never seen an "A" group put the miles on that a "T" group does.

Cheers, Dan

Sigh... I wish I had one of my own. The only experience I've ever had with one was driving a rat-rodded 25' 4-door. It was an interesting experience trying to drive while sitting on milk crates.

I wonder if our smarts will make a scratch on a collectors yardstick 50 years from now? I hope to have my current baby when I'm in my golden years. I'm betting all that plastic will need some major restoration by then though.

Hi Dan -

Out of the 3 I like the sound of your speedster best. I have a second cousin that has one but it spends a lot of time out on exhibits as it has a little racing history too. Your touring car sounds real nice too. Most of what is around hear is just the regular base model and most everyone has gotten rid of the earlier cars with a lot of brass to go to latter years. The club has a hack and a doctor's coupe too. About the only one that gets driven anywhere is the doctor's coupe. All the others are trailered which is why I mentioned what I said earlier. The A's drive everywhere. I normally tag along in my ride sometimes just in case someone breaks down. A modified car to those guys is sacrilege - I'm an exception and oddly enough they did let a guy with a modified A' sedan in the club too but he doesn't do a lot of the meets with them.

If you want to share pics of your T's, this is the thread.

Neon - wrong group to be making T/A jokes to. You might as well go ahead and make fun of dead grandmothers too.
