General Motors may bring new mini car to U.S.

DETROIT - General Motors Corp. is considering a new Chevrolet mini car for the United States as it reworks its product lineup to cope with a dramatic shift from trucks to cars linked to high gas prices, a spokesman said this week.

GM spokesman Dee Allen said bringing the Chevrolet Beat, which is about the size of a Honda Fit or Toyota Yaris mini car, to the U.S. is among the options the company is studying.

"It is certainly one of the things that is being looked at from a portfolio perspective," Allen said.

Crazy. They may bring it. You wonder what it takes for GM to "get in the game" and save their company.

My thoughts exactly - may? They should be fast tracking whatever they have, including the Opel Corsa.

How about bringing back the Opel Kadett Rallye! I had a 69 and it was an amazing machine. It was "tiny" for the times, ran circles around most cars and I loved the look on peoples faces when grocery shopping! I would walk out with this big cart of groceries and they looked at this "little" car and laughed, UNTIL I opened the trunk! I swear there was enough room in there to live in! It was a great car!

All 3 US auto makers need to be fast tracking a mini car to the US. Sad thing is Ford and GM have them in Europe but act like they are something 'new'?

once a "Chevrolet Beat" gets to be a few years old, it would give new meaning to the term "....an old 'beater' !!!

MSNBC hasn't caught up with the New Reality. It refers to the Fit and Yaris as "mini cars" rather than what they are, which is the new compact class. The old compact class was the Corolla and Civic, which you might as well consider "mid-sized" today. Although it wouldn't bode well for all the attention that we get as smart owners, they need to become less surprised by cars that are dimensionally much smaller that the Town Car Signature Class sedans they are used to riding in.

When GM bought daewoo think Aveo is where that is coming from nice. The US auto makers sell what they think we will buy. And so do the overseas brands. Look at what is available here from the German "brands" do you think that is what everyone drives over there, no that is how they make most of there money by selling that stuff to us and who can blame them. They are in business to make money.
I can remember the last gas crisis a Datsun 610 was the family car for my family of four how quickly "we" ditched these little cars
