GM warranty experience

i've had one dealer/warranty experience with my last car, a chevy metro, with 5 years and 22,000 miles, the EPA DEMANDS 80,000 miles/8 YEARS for the catalytic converter, mine failed way early, i spent a week (my only vacation that year) fighting chevy/gm/EPA to get this fixed, EPA said they had to fix it, GM, the dealer and chevy REFUSED to fix it. SCREW GM!!!
the US gov't is weak as hell and GM doesn't give a crap about customers, i'm happy they lost $3.3 billion last quarter, i hope they go UNDER, i want every chevy, olds, saturn, buick, cadillac and hummer owner to experience ZERO service, then try to sell them!
GM can go to hell and i'll be more than happy to toss fresh dirt into the grave when i have the time (you might detect bitterness, i'll be taking donations for prep-H for the way GM treated me)

So ... your warranty on the car expired, then the catalytic converter went out. Sounds to me like GM was right in refusing your claim.

Your pal,
Meat.

The emissions warranty is supposed to be higher if its a defect in design or materials... he's just mad at GM for not calling it a defect. Now, there's A LOT of anger in the message and not sure what it has to do with smart vehicles...

From the EPA's website.

"
B. DESIGN AND DEFECT WARRANTY

The Design and Defect Warranty covers repair of emission related parts which become defective during the warranty period. The Design and Defect warranty for model year 1995 and newer light-duty cars and trucks is outlined below:
Design and Defect Warranty Coverage for 1995 and newer light-duty vehicles:
  • Emission control and emission related parts are covered for the first 2 years or 24,000 miles of vehicle use; and
  • Specified major emission control components are covered for the first 8 years or 80,000 miles of vehicle use.
According to federal law, an emission control or emission related part, or a specified major emission control component, that fails because of a defect in materials or workmanship, must be repaired or replaced by the vehicle manufacturer free of charge as long as the vehicle has not exceeded the warranty time or mileage limitations for the failed part.
Design and Defect Warranty coverage may vary depending on the type of vehicle you have (e.g., heavy-duty trucks, motorcycles or recreational vehicles have different time and mileage requirements). To determine the length of warranty coverage that applies to your vehicle, look for the emissions warranty information in your owner's manual or warranty booklet. If you own a California vehicle, you may be entitled to additional warranty coverage."

thank you for 'sugar coating' your post, but in the future, please tell us how you REALLY feel, ok? hey, we're among friends! ;)

i think we all understand they refused to replace it. what was their reason? "out on time" or "not a covered component" or something else? they need to give you a reason why, not just simply say "we refuse to cover that repair".

when you get THAT info, then let us know......but as for your comment that you hope GM 'goes under', i'm no GM fan by any means, but i certainly don't wish that on all the people that work there and on this country that if GM were to fold, it would be devasting to our economy.

next time, just be careful what you wish for.......
