If there was no such thing as a smart?

Inspired by my trip the the Nissan dealership today to check out the Cube...

If you were in the market for a new car today and there were no smarts in the US - what would you consider?

Here is a list of cars that I had considered before I chose the Smart.
Toyota Yaris
Toyota Scion Xb (first one).
Mini Cooper
VW Beetle
Mazda M5 Miata

I was on the mailing list for the Fiat 500. I was checking out the Obvio 012 and 828.

NCC1701 - the "gills" really do make the Z3 look sharp. With seat heaters and the heater cranked, I could cruise the highway in 52 degrees when the sun was out. The Z4 was a little more open - had to wait for 58 degrees.

Do those temperatures ring a bell?

Those temperatures sound cool to me! (in a good way). I go topless in my smart down to the mid 50s. Yeah, heated seats on. I enjoy my cabrio MUCH more in the cool months. Seems so lame to run the A/C with the top back. But, I do it ... mainly when it's overcast, LOL

OH, I kinda overlooked the word "NEW" in Suze's question. Sorry Suze. If it hadn't been a smart, I might have opted for a used Z3 (for about half what I paid for my smart). I just like the styling better than the Z4.

EDIT: 12 hours later ... I see I'm not the only one who wouldn't have bought a new car if it weren't for the smart.

Mini Cooper, was high on my list when I got the smart, but the nearly $5000 price difference between a loaded passion and a base cooper made that an easy choice.
