IIHS finally starts testing roof crush

Interesting video from IIHS below. They have started using the roof crush as a standard test in their ratings system. I think this is long overdue, as a lot of cars perform really poorly in this type of crash. Just look at how the Hyundai does in comparison to the Tiguan.

It would be really interesting to see the Trideon Cell in action during one of these tests. Of course, that would also mean the murder of another Smart

They'll find some way to compare the roof-crush resistance of the smart to, say, an Abrams M1A2 tank. I can just see it now: "While the smart did relatively well in its class of microcars, you can see how easily its vaunted tridion cell is crushed when an Abrams M1A2 tank is placed on its roof. You can well imagine this happening on some suburban American highway..."

"The Trideon cell may be tough, but look how this industrial diamond-tipped drill goes right through the plexiglass roof, straight into the passenger compartment. Should people attempt to drill into your car while stopped at a red light, the Smart offers no protection. You will be minced."

We should start a thread on imaginary IIHS "objective" testing results and commentary on the smart.
