More speculation, but if the $15K price tag and 60 mpg is correct for the hybrid, that's a significant market entry. And, I think the 5-door is a smart move, pardon the pun.

Scion iQ Hybrid, Five-Door and Convertible

Although it's sold all over the world as a Toyota, the very small car (it's about the size of a Smart) will launch in the U.S under Toyota's Scion brand and will come in four flavors. First the iQ hybrid will arrive as a five-door hatchback, followed by a possible sedan version.

Power for the new Scion iQ hybrid should come from a system that mates a 1.5-liter gasoline engine to an electric motor for about 100-120 hp combined. This revolutionary hybrid system is rumored to get more than 60 mpg. Cost is expected to be about $15,000, pricing the iQ hybrid approximately $5,000 less than the larger Toyota Prius.

And of course, the one expected dimbulb comment:

It may look OK as a hood ornament on my Suburban. God help anyone who gets hit by an SUV or truck in one of these things.

Of course you have to expect that. My response to him: What happens when he rolls his Suburban, and the roof collapses and crushes him. The smart won't do that.
