Mitsubishi "i" (based on the forfour)

Looks like it'll come to Canada before the US - it's based on the forfour (I think it was a collaborative thing). Maybe if the fortwo does well, we'll see this for those who wants the benefits of a smart, but need the extra seating: http://www.southasianfocus.ca/wheels/article/35975

Now that looks like a nice upgrade to a 4 seater from the fortwo; hopefully Mitsubishi will bring them to the USA also.

The Mitsubishi i is a very interesting car, no doubt, but no relative of the smart forfour. The forfour was a front engine, front-wheel drive vehicle that shared it's underpinnings with the Mitsubishi Colt. The i is an altogether more radical design that (at least spiritually) is closer to the fortwo. It is rear engined, and makes extensive use of aluminum in its structure to keep weight down. There are a number of Japanese kei class vehicles that I would love to see sold in the US (i.e. add to my microcar collection).
