There are a few problems yet to be solved. If either Chrysler or Fiat goes down the tubes in the next year, obviously the deal's off. Chrysler has an upcoming press release in the next few weeks to reassess the deal. Also, as much as I'd probably be first in line for a 500, the fact that Chrysler will be building them is worrisome.

In the old days, Fiats had notorious issues with faulty electrics and rust, but with modern component vendors and non-Soviet steel, I suspect things should be better. Then again, the last time someone tried bringing a Fiat variant over here, it was that Malcolm Bricklin chap... remember the Yugo? ;)

Honest John has a review of the 500 Abarth, with a vid on the right side of this page.

I can report that I have an everlasting memory of having been allowed a number of "hot-laps" as a 'teenager driving one of Roosevelt Racing's (full cognomen: ) Fiat-Abarth Zagato 750 Bialbero Record Monza Coupès, long-ago. No, not at Sebring when all four swept their class, but at Lime Rock, CT. (and considerably before I finally held a SCCA comp. license). Mine was one of the red ones. For the occasion, I thank Gaston Andrey for the recommendation and Mr. FDR, Jr. himself for OK-ing it. Burt Levy might be envious.
