Great review of the IQ in the British magazine "CAR", they seem to think it's a game changer. Manual trans, as well as a CVT plus seating for 3 and occasionally 4 in a car the size of a smart. This is what I was talking about when I said that the competition would build a better micro. Just wait 18 months and see what the rest of the world comes up with, I can't wait to see the VW version!

Thank Goodness we bought cabrios: if the newer micros are that much of an improvement, then smart re-sale prices will plummet, however none of the new ones seem to be drop tops. Thus we will have a more valuable trade-in.

Personally I wouldnt like to be in the rear seats in a rear shunt. At least in the smart there is a boot to take some of the impact. Plus it would annoy me to have to always fold the seats when you need to use the boot as there are bearly 4 inches of space with the seats up!

the idea is that the it would be a 3 seater 99% of the time meaning that the fourth seat would be folded down and basically be the trunk...maybe there will be a divider of sorts to stop the groceries from ending up in passenger 3s lap all the time. Its more like a 3+1 rather than a 4 seater as few will want to sit behind the driver.

Wouldn't you think that people would leave the seats folded and only open them up for the times they carry extra passengers? Most of these sort of cars are used for two persons most of the time and only once in a while do they carry 3 or 4. This just give the owner the option.

Most importantly for me, we could both take our dogs to the park in one car which we cannot do in our smart. (GSD & Bassett Hound)

Personally, I hate to leave seats folded down. then there's the issue of things being on display. Not an ideal situation. Besides, if you need extra seats/space, then surely a bigger car is needed rather than a samrt. Plus, in europe at least, toyota have the Aygo, which is a 4 seater with a boot, not very big, has the same 1.0 engine and handles very well. Plus its mega cheap at around £7k (about $14k)

Don't get me wrong, the way toyota have engineered the iQ is amazing, but I personally wouldn't have one. Too expensive, and in the UK, we have the 500 which looks cool, or for not much more the Mini which will go much better and hold more value

Word it the US may actually get the Fiat 500 in a few years. Guess they have to get Alfa up and running here first. The article said that if the US appetite for small cars stays high, they could conceivably build the 500 here. (in one of the now empty factories!)
