OUCH! I got a speeding ticket!

OK, so I was on my first long distance trip with my smart- 500 miles in 2 days. I hit the open road and find that this baby does not like to go less than 70-75 and is really comfortable at 80 mph. Well 82 mph to be exact, which is what a Mass State Trooper claimed was what his radar clocked me at. He was pretty amused after pulling me over. "What is this" he asks. I bit my tongue rather than offer him some of the wittier responses I have seen here on the forum. He reminded me of a bird watcher who has just seen a new rare species; he was genuinely amused at his good fortune. Funny thing, ticket reads yellow for color, even though registration says black. Ticket says Mercedes even though registration says smart and the trooper spelled my name wrong. So I guess I'll have to just learn to reign in the beast that is my new smart.

Based on the mistakes you might be able to find a judge that'll toss it out...

I found out today this car may be trouble for me too! I picked mine up monday 4/21.....but waited until today before I went out for a drive in manual mode....I had only used Auto mode until I had got used to the cars feel and layout. WOW...what a difference! This little car goes....and I can see myself getting into trouble if I don't watch it.

Speed is NOT a problem

I have 2500 miles now and have learned quite a bit about my bumblebee. I tell people exactly what they are surprised to hear, it WILL break any speed limit in the US and cruise all day long WITHOUT the pedal to the floor.......on somwhat level highway of course! It may be a different story on the interstate thru the rockies toward VAIL...LOL LOL

This may seem funny but this might be worth fighting. First, did he use a radar or laser gun? Tell the judge about the color/make of the car. If you want to fight this, you got some ammo here. The officer, in his gawking mode, didn't write down the right info and it could leave the door slightly opened for you to walk right out.

Maybe everyone should buy an extra set of panels in a different color and change them out after each speeding ticket. Hmmm . . . I think you might break even at about 5 tickets 15-19 mph over the limit.

the smart is an attention getter, I went to get some food at the store today to find out on my way back to the car 2 cops circling my little cutness snoopin' around... I started to get nervous cause I was wondering what kind of trouble I got myself into since the car was parked and not moving lol...

MASS HWAY patrols are the WORST!!!! I live in NH and hope nothing happens when I go to Ma. They are not too pleasant either...

Well...I can't say how it will do in the Rockies...but here in West Virginia it handles the mountain roads just fine. My wife followed me home when we picked the car up. When we stopped for dinner she said....'looked like you were having fun!'...I was...just keeping the rpm's up a little...not high...makes the car really drive well, and we have some pretty big mountains!
I have yet to find the 'issues' some of the magazine writers have had.

There is no way a judge will toss this citation, the material facts are correct. He was speeding, the car is Yellow (color on registration is cell and not important to material fact of crime commited) and it is made by Mercedes. Laser is calibrated, officer is trained.

I have issued over 2,000 citations and NEVER lost one due to an error in the citation. Had a lady fight one because I noted her vehicle as a VW Bug not it's correct model number... Needless to say she lost.
