Does not look like very many "eco" cars are the top choice of US consumers, and it is interesting to note three of the top choices are either trucks or crossover SUV.
Where does the idea that Saturn may have survived by selling "eco" cars that few people actually spend their money on?
That is unfortunate, that is the only way we (Canada) got any Opels (German GM) good cars for the price. What happens now? A new "Saturn" dealership just completed construction 3 months ago (about 2.5 million $) here in Edmonton, Alberta.
How about a new Curling club? (if the service bays are set up right)
I think Opel will be back, and even better out from the auspice of GM. There's definitely a market for another German car in North America.

Saturn, as an independent entity from GM, could have built a eco minded feulish engine and stuffed it into a fresh design and driven the Eco car market. Unfortunately, GM saw fit to micromanage Saturn and turned it into a Pontiac Division.
I am looking at the prices in the list above examples and my take is: In this economy, only those with the financial horsepower to spend $21,000 - $54,000 dollars on a new car were buying!! I wonder what would have happened in the same period if Saturn had a model priced below $20,000, 4 door, AWD, that got 30 MPG City and 40 MPG highway?
A great idea for a new thread: What do you do with all these closed dealerships?
May cause a resurgence in Roller Rinks? For those younger folks among us, if you don't know what those were - I'm sure that Jet Fuel has some stories he could tell.

Combination fast food restaurant and quick lube place? Pull up, order your food and eat in the car, while they pull some service on the car?
"Yeah, I'd like a #3 with extra mayo, a diet coke, a full synthetic oil change and a tire rotation."

Jet is a little old for roller rinks unless you're talking about roller skates with wheels made out of rocks and axles made of sticks.

You don't have to be #1 to make a profit. They could have still been a viable company if GM hadn't turned them into a clone factory.
