The auction for the bags posted in the start of this thread on May 8th has long since ended. Doing an eBay search on roadsterbag comes up with several non-Smart items from the same place.
You can find the same Smart Roadsterbag I wasn't impressed with (and returned) at Smart RoadsterBag : SMART MOVEZ ONLINE BOUTIQUE or you could ask the eBay person selling the other Roadsterbags for info on the Smart versions.
Take a look at roadsterbag.johnhandwork.com for a writeup I sent them about the bags if you like.
Thanks! That's just the kind of info I was hoping for. I'm not a fancy-luggage kind of guy. I don't need quilted linings, fitted hangers, fancy stitching, or designer labels.
But, like you, I'm an engineer and I want a product that is designed and built well. I don't want luggage held together with staples that are pulling out when it's still new or with cheap plastic buckles that don't stay fastened. I definitely would have returned it, too.
So.... does anyone have any experience with these?? They look like they would work pretty well as far as the space, and overall, they're fairly nice looking. We have just HUGE Kraft multi-colored gym bag that we really like because it has pockets galore, and that's what we've been using. However, when you pull up in front of a nice hotel and grab your bag out of the back, or THEY do, it's 'kinda embarrassing! :>( I'd love to hear any input from someone who's bought these for their smart. Take a look at post #11 in this thread. I was NOT impressed with the workmanship. There was so much potential for a good solution but the way the bag came together was just miserable.
If they had just replaced the clips which didn't work for me (but apparently worked for them) I would have spend a few hours sewing or gluing things together to make it so the bag was sturdy enough to make me happy.
There's a solid formed metal brace around the center of the bag but the edges will easily collapse under weight because they only affixed the plastic backing to 2 edges and the plastic surround attached to the metal brace isn't anchored around the edges at all. The zipper front wasn't even attached to the bottom board well enough - the staples where already out when I unzipped the inside lining to figure out what was going wrong with the bags.
It may have cost me $80 (shipping both ways - I mentioned in the PDF I authored long ago) to end up with the supplier claiming "we didn't find a problem" with the cheap clips that wouldn't work for me.
If you don't care much about quality, they're okay. "Very Monet" to quote from the movie "Clueless:" they look good from a distance but not so great close up.
John_H.....these aren't the Roadster Bags that you'd evaluated earlier....the ones that you get two of them....that used to be for sale on e-bay. These are different bags, and you get three. They might not be any better than the ones that you evaluated, but they ARE a different set of bags! :>)

Roadtrip fitted luggage! Not "roadster" at all. It looks decent but the price is a bit on the high side for me to splurge at the moment. If you choose to take the plunge, I'm seriously interested in your opinions.
John_H.......gotta run it past the "Boss!" :>) See what she thinks of them. She really likes the "Kraft" bag that we bought for $4 at a garage sale! :>) To me it's great to carry everything, but it just looks really tacky getting out of my beautiful little car at a nice hotel and then grabbing that bag out of the back, and it's like a dark blue & a lighter pastel blue! Yeck! :>( I think the matched bags would be a lot classier looking, AND we'd each have our own bag! :>) I'll let you know if I get them. They are 'kinda pricey, especially with shipping! Oh......I just noticed my previous title! NOW I understand! :>) I was GOING to write something about the RoadsterBag luggage, and then changed my mind! Forgot to change the title, though! :>)

It seems to have been removed or no longer available?
BigWarpGuy - this thread started a long time ago with the original RoadsterBag stuff but was revived when BigCritter came across the Roadtrip fitted luggage. The ebay auction in the May auction is, indeed, more than 90 days old.
If you wonder about the original bags that I know I didn't like as opposed to the new set that shows promise, take a look here but please also check out the PDF in my post #11 in this thread before seriously considering those bags that started the thread.
I told my wife tonight that if she insisted on taking that "Kraft" bag and not letting me get this set of luggage designed specifically for smartie, then I would have to resort to rolling up my pants legs, wearing a floppy straw hat, using a rope for a belt, and calling her "Granny!" :>) I think she caught the subtle innuendo! ;>) We'll see what she says after she looks at the printout I left her! :>) We're taking a trip up to Vancouver, B.C. in March to celebrate my birthday, and I would really like to have a nice set of luggage for smartie before then! :>)
