Shift into "N" and then turn off the key?

Runaway engine?

Shift into "N" coast to the side of the road.

IF the shift to "N" doesn't work, TURN OFF THE KEY?

This is most likely a hoax.

1. Put car in neutral
2. Turn it off! (if pushbutton start on a Toyo, push it three times)
3. Slam the brake pedal. Make sure you are hitting the brake.
4. Take off foot from accelerator!
5. Remove floor mat and throw it to back seat!

In the 90's, it took NHTSA two full years to conclude that all of the Audi sudden-acceleration claims were pilot error.

The Guy burned up his brakes trying to stop the thing. He also used his hand to try and pull up the the accelerator but that didn't work.

Anyway you look at it, when you take your foot off the gas pedal, the car should slow down, not speed up. When you stomp on the Brakes the car should slow down. No excuses.

I thought it would be the whole thing, chase & stopping. All I saw was the news article where the guy says he'll never drive that car again. NOTE: check out his license plate.

I almost bought a Prius instead of the smart; I'm so glad I didn't get the yota.

How can so many people forget that between the letters P and D there is a large N that can be used any time the engine is running?

I personally cannot understand anyone losing control of a vehicle because of a stuck accelerator, unless traffic stops immediately in front of them and there is not time to react. Any other time is simply a lack of awareness or incomplete driver training.
