Silver Arrows Again?

The word is out that M-B will return to works racing under its own name for the first time since the stable was closed down following the Le Mans incident in 1955. M-B will take over Braun GP (sort of like the way they took over ILMOR). McLaren is to be shed.

May be. McLaren-Mercedes actually kept a significant amount of white, the original FIA-assigned body color (with red numerals) for Germany, or silver through their various sponsors' liveries (McLaren, Marlboro, West, Vodaphone).

Makes you wonder now if M-B will "stoop" to someone else's garish, non-automotive advertising on their works cars. I'm sure that Mobil 1 will be there somewhere.

Now that there will be three actual car manufacturers on the F1 grid again, I'd like to see more light blue on the Renaults.

Mercedes CEO Dieter Zetsche has already called it the "Silver Arrows works team", and released a teaser shot. (in the link above)

As you can see in the attached photo of the infamous M-B CLR flight at Le Mans, it looks like the millions were coming from Mobil 1 only:



I'd be willing to predict that the F1 "Silver Arrows" will look similar.

U.S.A. Going to the way-back, it was originally white with blue "undercarriage." There have been variations: dark blue-on-white, white-on-dark blue, and even the light metalic blue Reventlow Scarabs.
