Here's what seems to be the most accurate smart and Yaris 0-60's on YouTube. Compare how much the Yaris acts just like the smart!

The Yaris (notice the slight burnout at the start)

Even without the 09' faster shifting smart 0-60 I'd still say that the smart wins.

Judging by the numbers on the timeline, it looks like the Yaris wins.

The Yaris has an hp/weight ratio of 21.9 lb/hp, whereas the smart has about 26.1 lb/hp... a simple shifting upgrade isn't going to make up for that.

Regardless, I'm not sure any of us bought our cars for it's 0-60 time... the only thing I am apt to drag from a light would be a bus.

I know I did not buy it for its 0-60 times. If I wanted it fast, I would have done a SmartZuki thing with mine.

Once one gets used to the transmission, the Smart is no snail either.

I've got at least one of each according to my bank and the Yaris wins in acceleration, seating capacity, cargo capacity & ease of maintenance and repair parts.

The smart wins in coolness, mileage, uniqueness, ease of parking & fun to drive.

Still somewhat of an apples & oranges thing. Now maybe if we were comparing green apples to red apples or tangerines and oranges.

Obviously the Yaris wins in a 0-60 matchup-- its video was 15 seconds long, the smart 16 seconds long...

I have both and the Yaris is hands down faster, I have the transmission upgrade and everything, and if we both floor it the smart falls behind significantly each time it shifts, and cannot hold on to anything even between shifts once you get into second.

I'd agree that the Yaris is about a second faster but with that margin the smart could have easily won.

Well the point of this is that people like to call the smart the "slowest car in America" and those videos among with other subcompact 0-60s proves that our mini money saving smile maker is NOT the slowest car in America.

But if I wanted to get to 60 in nothing flat, I'd have to go with a GT500.

The smart has other attributes that attracted me to it.
