Yes that is very interesting. My first car was a 1977 Ford Mustang II Ghia which was the biggest example of why Ford stands for found on road dead. It was a royal piece of crap. The only redeeming quality to that car is that it was very smialar to the one Jaclyn Smith drove in Charlies Angels.
Well she looked good anyway

That period of time was a difficult time for all American manufacturers. The Japanese cars were rising in popularity and Ford, GM and Dodge didn't know how to compete. It was also the time of the Chrysler K Car (a boring, vanilla car if ever there was one) the AMC Pacer (interesting concept, but you either loved it or hated it) and the Pinto (fire bomb on wheels) among a few other iffy American made vehicles.
Why is smart not on the list, For the same reason the Simpsons had a hard time competing wiht the Cosby show some almost 20 years ago, Not enough distrobution points.
If their was a smart dealer even every 150 miles they would most likely have made the list. But with many parts of the country filled with trucks and SUV's more than 200 miles from a smart dealer, its hard to compete.
