Toyota iQ - 5 stars on EuroNCAP crash tests

Compare to 4 starts for current smart ForTwo.

ForTwo: driver & pass thighs get marginals. Pass gets adequate for chest. Neck for whiplash was not tested. Total score: 28.

iQ: no part of driver nor pass get marginals, except neck for whiplash which does get marginal. Drivr lower legs get adequate. Total score: 33.

I'm not sure what the point of this is.

This is a comparison of European versions of these 2 cars. Since we don't know how the iQ will be configured if/when it gets here, what' the relevance?

We do know how the fortwo is configured for the US & it's not the same as the European version. For example, the fortwo lost points in this test for lack of protection to the passenger of a head/thorax side air bag because it is optional equipment in Europe & was therefore not included on the model tested. BUT the American version of the fortwo has this air bag as standard equipment so it would have fared better in the same test.

Exactly what I was thinking. The scoring systems are different & I found it hard to compare the results of one with the other.
