100K sales target for the first year, plus it has turn signal repeaters in the mirrors! The real advantage over the smart will be the average person can walk into a Toyota dealer and buy one off the lot. Huge selling point for most people and smart USA has nothing to counter with except "18 months til yours comes in."

That may be true, but like the Prius right now, the dealers/salespeople take advantage of demand and will only sell the car well above list price. Also, we really don't know how safe the car will be. Can it take the kind of crashes a Smart can take?

Dealer pricing and crash test performance - TBD. Didn't stop most of us from ordering our smarts well in advance. Yes, supply and demand are always at work, but 100K iQs is 4 times as many smarts available [in the US] in 2008. I'm betting the car will sell out.

I just got back from Italy and you see Smarts everywhere. Gas now costs them something like $10 a gallon (or more) and rising. This is all about world oil prices and worldwide auto sales for car manufacturers. Anybody who wants to drive is going to be looking for fuel efficient cars. Toyota is easily going to sell all the IQ's they can make. So will Smart. It will be nice to have more choices, but for me I like my Smart just fine.
