Toyota IQ on Fuelly

It's not in the Browse Vehicles section yet, but I just noticed that someone has an IQ from Britain listed on Fuelly. Of course, we don't know the driving conditions/style for this vehicle, but it's interesting to note nonetheless.

Ike (Toyota IQ) | Fuelly

This is not the same iQ that they are talking about bringing to the US. It has a smaller engine & is a smaller, lighter weight car - even before US required safety & emissions equipment haws been added.

Sure, the US-spec model will be heavier with a different engine, emissions equipment, etc., but it's still interesting to see the mileage on a 'best case' iQ using Euro equipment.

The Ford Fiesta may get here first: Overview

What Car? Magazine car of the year and their "supermini" car of the year for 2009. And Ford will be in business next year to begin selling it.

Looking forward to more of these cars coming soon.

I agree. The iQ isn't the mpg killer that people are making it out to be.

Ford has some very nice stuff in Europe. I'm glad they're finally bringing it over and hopefully it will influence the design of their US models.

I saw an article on line which listed the most fuel efficient cars in the UK. The liest was dominate3d by Fords. Diesels! I asked a Ford rep at the NY Auto Show why Ford does bring some of these & their other top selling cars fromn Europe to the US. The reply was that Europeans don't like cars that sell well in the US & americans don't seem to buy cars that sell well in Europe.

We don't know driving conditions. If this is city driving, stop-and-go, 4 mile trips, then 42MPG is pretty darn good. I get 30-35 in those conditions depending on my mood which directly affects my gas pedal. Yesterday on the way home I got 25 because I hit every red light and was surrounded by every jumpy, impatient person wanting to get home. Fridays trend lower because traffic increases and becomes more stupid.

But this is the first generation iQ - the one that is rated at 65 mpg (Imperial) in Europe, which translates into 54 mpg (US), the one that people have been claiming will get 50 mpg when it comes here, the one with a 1.0 liter/67 hp engine, the one that weighs only 1942 pounds. 42 mpg is not very good under any circumstances for a car that is supposed to get 54 mpg.

The Scion iQ, which they had on display in NY & which is the concept car for what theey're planning for production in the US, has a 1.33 liter/97 hp engine. It weights 2094 pounds before they've added any US required safety & emissions equipment. They're only claiming 38 mpg for this 2nd generation iQ. I'm guessing that it will be even lower - just as this iQ on Fuelly comes in well below the mpg claims for it.
