Volkswagen Polo Headed to America
By JERRY GARRETT, NY TIMES AUTOMOBILES
Hatchback and sedan versions of VW's new Polo compact will arrive in the United States by 2011, the company says.
The Volkswagen Polo, introduced at the Geneva auto show, will go on sale in Europe in June.
Though Volkswagen unveiled the new, fifth-generation Polo at Geneva just this month, it is already rolling off assembly lines in Europe. The four-door hatchback, a 2010 model, should be stocked in European showrooms by June.
A two-door hatchback is also planned in Europe, as well as a small crossover. Europeans will have seven engine choices, including three common-rail turbodiesel models, with 7-speed dual-clutch transmissions. The company said an updated BlueMotion diesel version would get 62 miles a gallon.
Whether that engine, or any diesel for that matter, will make it to America, Mr. Keyes noted, is “not yet decided.” But let the rumors begin.
Interesting.... and I'll bet it has more than a 2/24 warranty...
