Not surprisingly, all 10-best sellers are made in the US, including the Toyota Corolla, the Honda Accord, the Nissan Altima, the Dodge Ram, and the Ford F-150.

Not surprisingly, niche vehicles such as the Toyota Prius are imported.

Buy local, buy a Corolla!

If the Oil Prices hadn't fallen along with the economic downturn that has slowed demand for all cars, The Prius would have been American Made

it doesnt matter were its built the doller still floates across the sea to japan and we are all contributing to devaluating our own currency by buying foreign cars, i might like to add thou you all may be paying higer prices soon for toyotas since their yen is apreciating rappidly and our doller is falling so the prices will go up to offset the finacial loss japan is having now since their cars are worth less technically, i for one will never buy a japanese car i would rather walk, even europe played hardball with their products since japan terrifed their cars europe did the same, the japanese car companies dont play fair so theyll never have my buisness i had a toyota internship while going to school for design and after what i heard and how they veiw us i can never go back it was an eye opener for me.

by the way karl i know how you feel !
and laphed when you said Wow

they will all understand one day but i hope that day never comes! if that makes sence

If you feel this way then Why would you buy a Smart. How is it any different. At least an American Made Toyota Provides Jobs for American more than just your Smart Dealer. Buying a American Made car provides Money for American and the Losses right now are going to Japan.

But then Again I didn't do an internship with Toyota.

I won't buy Toyota after working in the service/repair department of a dealership. The reliability is overrated. (Just thought I'd get that out)

This list looks a lot like the lists from years past, the F-150 has been the best selling for years, the Camry has been up there too. I expect this list to begin to change over the next few years though, looking at what Ford has planned the list may begin to look like that of about 1995. After hearing how a lot of people feel about their new Toyota's, my bet is they will start to fall.

yea thats why i posted we are all at fault here, my father owens a GM dealer here in MI and ofcorse me and my sister buy imports she bought a honda and i bought a audi a6 and a mini cooper s and now a smart so he has really vented steem about our choices but he understands why we buy them. Car design and needs are subjective and we have the right to buy what we want and he understood that i buy what speaks to me and when i look at the American cars they are just not what im looking for at the time, but they are changing and a little inside info, GM is going to be producing the BEAT to combat against the smart and IQ and others they should have had this long ago and at least now its going to be here, when i do not know but its finally in the works here are a few small cars that gm should have had today not tommorow and they would have had a customer and im sure some of the people here would agree,

this was written about he beat in 2008 this year and now from what ive heard from gm during this time with washington and them having to turn themselves around now they are reconsidering this last statment so now its just a matter of time and this car mind you gets 40 miles per gallon so like i said i thing the american car manufacturers are on the brink of a new revolution in auto and design and a very exciting time indeed

This is from july 2008
Shortly after General Motors Chairman Rick Wagoner announced today that the automaker remains "committed to bringing to market great products that target changing consumer preferences for more fuel-efficient vehicles," GM's vice chairman told reporters the company won't be selling the fuel-efficient Chevrolet Beat in the U.S. after all.
Looking for quick fixes for its dramatically declining U.S. sales outlook, GM officials as recently as 10 days ago were considering importing into the United States and Canada the 40-miles-per-gallon Beat minicar presently planned for a mid-2009 launch in markets outside North America.
But in a conference call with reporters shortly after Wagoner's announcement, GM VC Bob Lutz said the 3-door subcompact hatchback bound for Europe and elsewhere next year as the Spark -- replacing the vehicle that shares the same name -- won't be offered in either the U.S. or Canada.
That's because the General didn't think to design the cute little gas-sipper, with an instant North American market of mileage-crazed motorists, to meet U.S. and/or Canadian federal safety and crash standards.

It would take too much money and two years to bring the Beat up to snuff for sales in the North America, Lutz said today, so don't expect to see one for sale on the continent until the next generation of the MINI Cooper/Smart Fortwo challenger is released. That would be years from now.
The Beat concept wowed show-goers when it was initially displayed at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2007. The hatchback packed a 1.2-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and, at 138-inches in length, was bigger than Daimler's Smart 36-mpg car but a foot shorter than anything GM now sells in the U.S. It seemed like a natural addition to GM's American offerings.

also would like to add to the line upfor small cars, ford is importing their new fiesta

and it be cool to get the ford ka finally thou i dont know

I hate to say this but I will believe it when I see it. I know it might cost more but I think they should make the cars to the highest of the US/European standards so they would only need minor changes for each market. You can always be safer and have fewer emissions than the minimum requirements. When Smart decided to sell over here they managed to and with one of the safest cars around. I have a Dodge truck and put my $99 down when Chrysler had a stake in Smart. I grew up in Lansing with Oldsmobile, Cadillac and Fisher body. The big 3 seem to be slow to react and have not diversified from the money making trucks when gas went up and there was a downturn. I really hope they come through this but they must get the costs in line. How many dealers can they support. how much more can the CEOs and workers make than lower wage countries and compete. The next year will be very interesting indeed.

Can someone explane the difference between made in America and assembled in America.
There are two public automakers here in the US and one private company. At least 5 forigen automakers are doing some sort of assembly here in the US. That does not make them domestic manufacturers or has sombody clicked there heels in there ruby red slippers... Karl
