yea thats why i posted we are all at fault here, my father owens a GM dealer here in MI and ofcorse me and my sister buy imports she bought a honda and i bought a audi a6 and a mini cooper s and now a smart so he has really vented steem about our choices but he understands why we buy them. Car design and needs are subjective and we have the right to buy what we want and he understood that i buy what speaks to me and when i look at the American cars they are just not what im looking for at the time, but they are changing and a little inside info, GM is going to be producing the BEAT to combat against the smart and IQ and others they should have had this long ago and at least now its going to be here, when i do not know but its finally in the works here are a few small cars that gm should have had today not tommorow and they would have had a customer and im sure some of the people here would agree,
this was written about he beat in 2008 this year and now from what ive heard from gm during this time with washington and them having to turn themselves around now they are reconsidering this last statment so now its just a matter of time and this car mind you gets 40 miles per gallon so like i said i thing the american car manufacturers are on the brink of a new revolution in auto and design and a very exciting time indeed
This is from july 2008
Shortly after General Motors Chairman Rick Wagoner announced today that the automaker remains "committed to bringing to market great products that target changing consumer preferences for more fuel-efficient vehicles," GM's vice chairman told reporters the company won't be selling the fuel-efficient Chevrolet Beat in the U.S. after all.
Looking for quick fixes for its dramatically declining U.S. sales outlook, GM officials as recently as 10 days ago were considering importing into the United States and Canada the 40-miles-per-gallon Beat minicar presently planned for a mid-2009 launch in markets outside North America.
But in a conference call with reporters shortly after Wagoner's announcement, GM VC Bob Lutz said the 3-door subcompact hatchback bound for Europe and elsewhere next year as the Spark -- replacing the vehicle that shares the same name -- won't be offered in either the U.S. or Canada.
That's because the General didn't think to design the cute little gas-sipper, with an instant North American market of mileage-crazed motorists, to meet U.S. and/or Canadian federal safety and crash standards.
It would take too much money and two years to bring the Beat up to snuff for sales in the North America, Lutz said today, so don't expect to see one for sale on the continent until the next generation of the MINI Cooper/Smart Fortwo challenger is released. That would be years from now.
The Beat concept wowed show-goers when it was initially displayed at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2007. The hatchback packed a 1.2-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and, at 138-inches in length, was bigger than Daimler's Smart 36-mpg car but a foot shorter than anything GM now sells in the U.S. It seemed like a natural addition to GM's American offerings.
also would like to add to the line upfor small cars, ford is importing their new fiesta
and it be cool to get the ford ka finally thou i dont know
