What's The Longest You Have Owned a Car?

How awesome is this??!!!

Mr. Allen Swift ( Springfield , MA.) received this 1928 Rolls-Royce Picadilly P1 Roadster from his father, brand new - as a graduation gift in 1928. He drove it up until his death in 2005 ..at the age of 102 !!!

He was the oldest living owner of a car from new. He donated it to a Springfield museum after his death. It has 170,000 miles on it, still runs like a Swiss watch, dead silent at any speed and is in perfect cosmetic condition. (82 years) ...That's approximately 2073 miles per year...

Can you imagine keeping your smart for that long?

The longest I have ever owned a car from new is 10 years so far (my trusty Mazda --I still drive it when not driving my Weepod)

What about you car fanatics out there--what's the longest you have owned a car from new?

Most of my vehicles stick it out for around 15 years, and well over 200K miles..

My record to date was a Dodge Neon. Purchased new on 3/25/1994 and driven until the end of 2007 ... almost 14 years. I don't know how many miles it had on it, the odometer quit working years before the car died. I got my moneys worth out of it.

If we stick to cars bought new, I have only had five cars in the 48 years I have been driving:
1966 VW big sold in 1970 with 90,000 miles on it - needed money. Sold it to a buddy, who drove it up to 200,000 miles.
1978 VW Rabbit sold in 1989 with 155,000 miles on it - too many cars.
1986 VW Vanagon sold to a junkyard in 2002 with 265,000 miles on it (dead engine).
1992 Mitsubishi Expo sold in 2008 with 238,000 miles on it (transmission problems).
2009 Smart has 13,000 miles on it and is expected to last until I have to stop driving.

Awesome! Have you refurbished it, or is it all original?
