Wonder if this towing method would work on a smartie??

It seems to work fine on an older VW. Even though smart says no-no to anything on the roof they advertise its strength. Hmmmmm.....

Well, considering the age of that vintage video, it looks like something that was tried out and never took off. Maybe since bugs have rear engines (like ours) and the trailer pretty much blocks the air flow, it caused over heating ?

Would it be above the roof line and be like an air scoop where the air is directed toward the engine area? With the Smart, the scoop is on the side of the car?
