Call Darrin at smartcenter Portland. I did; my filter is on it's way at a bargain price.

Ken that thing looks great. Did you notice any power or fuel mpg increase. I'm going to try and make one for my car. What did you use for pipe, what size, and where did you get it?
Thanks Dan

I recently did a major transformation (roadster turbo, janspeed exhaust, venom induction and remap) and am no longer in need of it. If you are interested I can sell you the one I have for $20. It was used for about 5000 miles.

I also have a brabus sport exhaust available if interested. Adds 5bhp. Used for about 5000 miles as well. More power, a bit louder than the stock exhaust but sound nice.
I tried sending you a PM, but found out I need at least three posts before I can do so. This is my third so I will follow-up after with a PM.

Very interested to learn more about the mods you made to your engine and the performance increase. Also interested to find out if your exhaust is still for sale.

Try 33-2647 K&N shows a dimension of 265mm x 105mm x 28.6mm. This should work if anyone wants to measure a stock filter. Summit racing sells them for $33.95

i own a 450 05 smart from g/k, put on a digatec exhaust, itc filter and a morcal intake tube and love the performance in 6th gear now. it pulls over hills and it takes less throttle to maintain freeway speed. was going to remapp but got scared during my first try when the programmer wouldn't envoke the write command of the flash... as of now top speed of my smart 450 with 2 people 375 lbs and mods is now 98.9 mph on gps... it pulls on my 452 cab with a dth exhast.. lol and gets better gas milage... i will divorce the mitsubishi from my 451 in a heart bet when a electric or lpg conversion is available. what a shame the 5 speed and no turbo does to a usa car compaired to the 700 cc turbo 6 speed imports..... there is no comparison... period.....

very strange about the remap. I would highly recommend it if you can find a different source. If you think it's fun now it get's even better!

wait a second... if you have no remap how are you able to get it to 98 mph. They are limited at 85mph. you sure about 98?

yeah im sure... for one i own a garmin nuvi
for two my car hits 85 almost out of fourth gear and pulls through 6th

about remap

after talking to a few people in the industry they refused remapping my car without risks that could render my smart useless. The cpu my of has is a version that doesn't allow downloading of current map via obd so optican said no problem but i left it at that...
As for 85 mph limiter.... The way i understood the map is that the part that is in the limit command strings at the beginning of the code and g/k omitted that part during the upload process during dyno.

soon i will post a link of a youtube video or something showing the mods and gps video.

Nice one, Ken! That other after-market CAI kit with the little K&N filter is way undersized, I reckon. I mean, it works and all, but a guy'll have to be cleaning that itty-bitty filter all the time.

I did similar on my 450 CDi:

Air Filter

I see that Mann+Hummel (who originally developed the fleece oil filter technology for M-B 229.5) is now developing an air filter element for the smart.
