Cruise Control

New kid on the block, wanting to buy my first Smart fortwo. I want to add cruise control. Where can I get this, and will Smartcar install?

That unit is for the 451. This section is for the 450.

For the 450 you can either buy the smart OEM cruise and then get the TAN activated or you can purchase the MDC version which is available thru smartieparts.com.

Since Martha is a newbie and wanting to buy her first one, I am sure she wants a 451 but may not know the difference yet. Welcome!

These were the exact words of Dave Schembri when he was asked this question last Sunday. "If the problem is a direct result of the cruise control system than your warranty won't cover the repair. But in general, no. Installing an aftermarket cruise will not void your warranty."

I just got my MDC today, looks well made and easy to install. Probably do it this weekend. Can't wait and price was good.

On my 451, I love my Area451 cruise control (Area 451 Parts Support Forum - Index) and John's Dash LED makes it even better (Tutorial: Secondary LED indicator in Instrument Cluster)

MDC makes a unit for the 450 and for the 451. Area 451 is only for the 451. Both are pretty good from what I hear. I have a 451 MDC unit myself. SmartieParts sells the Area 451 module, and they have great customer service (I got my MDC from them before the Area 451 was out). SmartMaddness sells the MDC now, and have been very good with my most recent order from them, friendly and responsive.
