Fitting RHD tail light on driver side of LHD car

I've never liked how Smarts have one back up light and one rear fog. I'd prefer 2 reverse lights. My idea is to get a UK market tail light (their back-up light is on the left and fog on right) for the left hand side, and install it in my car and run a wire linking the two back-up lights together. Feed the wire through the body work or something. Will it work? Evilution.co.uk has a rear light wire chart outlining wire colors. Then how about using the rear fog position on the light stalk for a set of aftermarket front fogs?

On the Original Smart Fortwo, the 1998-2007 "Type 450" model, the rear passenger side has a revese light, but the rear driver side has a red rear fog light. In Europe most if not all cars have rear fog lights. You can turn it on if it's really rainy or foggy, it's a very bright red light, but I hate it because the dash light for it is also a super bright red light that's very distracting. And also people tell me every time I back up that I have a reverse light out, which I don't.

If that works, let me know. I get tired of people telling me my one backup light is out too.

I get tired of people thinking the world is the same as it is here in America. I tell them its a European model. In Europe they have one reverse light, and one rear fog light.
