Gulf Racing Stripes - thoughts, comments?

cool, lame, not enough, too much? orange wheels and mirrors? across the roof? door stripes?

I'm gonna go see a friend of mine next week about it, and thought of getting some feedback first. Hoping this will shave like 2 secs off my 0-60 run.

(I know my photoshoppery is excellent, so lets not discuss that...)

I like it. Thought about throwing some stripes on my car this weekend.

I like the gulf colors. I'd replace the side stripes with the race number on a circular background.

IIRC, the official scheme is a center orange stripe and every well else blue. Are you game to repaint your smart?

I was thinking the same thing about the number circle or square, maybe overlapping the stripes.

The real Gulf scheme with the orange stripe wrapping around the nose would be awesome and a vinyl wrap could do it, but it's too expensive. I got the idea for the offcenter stripes from a watch I have, which has a black face and the gulf stripes offcenter just like that.

Being a budding car collector, I'm inclined to say I do not like ONLY for the reason that I like my cars to be original as much as possible. I don't mean I won't modify the engine or anything. I would prefer to leave the car the way it was painted when new. If I did this, I'd get a spare set of panels and have it done to those. And I wouldn't paint the Tridion. But that is me and my opinion.

HOWEVER, I do like those stripes. I think you're underestimating your horsepower increase. I think its good for about 3hp. Judging by all the body kits and stickers I see on a lot of cars in Atlanta, it may even give you 10hp.

So yes, I like the pattern and colors.

Brian, I know what you mean. I've had a few "collector cars" that I wouldn't modify, but newer not-yet-classics I consider fair game to modify, but keep the original parts. The stripes are stick-on, so no paint necessary.

If I'd gotten a white instead of my red I'd think about black stripes with a 53 in a circle, "Herbie" reincarnated

I've been begging my dad to let me do red & blue stripes with a black circle and a 26 1/2 in it on his white Passion. He won't go for it.....next time he takes a vacation and I have spare time......

hoov & brian - you guys wouldn't care for some of my older cars. Of course one of them topped out at a full 45-50mph originally. Now it is slightly faster.

I used to be on the keep it original boat but I guess people really can change.

B, I'm sure I'd love em, I'm a big micro car fan. Been into Fiat 500s for a while, but that'll do 60, what do you have that goes 45? My '78 moped will almost go that fast... now...
