passenger seat seat belt gets cought in door upon closing

is there a retractor that would ameliorate this nagging petty problem and has this been adressed by the vox populi while I have been distracted by the movie and music entries it appears only on passenger side .

I don't have a passenger often, so I have not noticed your particular problem. However, my driver's side belt used to get caught in the door ... until I made the habit of making sure it was clear before closing the door.

One result was I lost that little button on the belt which is supposed to keep the buckle from sliding down too far and thereby becoming hard to retrieve from between the seat and door. On my 10K scheduled maintanence I had the button replaced. I asked them to check the belt for proper retraction. They reported it was functioning properly.

So, it's not necessarily just the passenger side which can have that problem. And, it can result in damage to both the seat belt and the paint inside the door jamb. Gotta watch it, I reckon.

Make sure that the belt is properly threaded through the guide on the seatback. Any excess restriction there will keep the belt from properly retracting. It may be possible that the fore-and-aft position of the seat or the backrest adjustment will affect the amount of friction in the guide.

I ceased using the aftermarket belt pads because they restricted retraction unless I pulled them down every time. Inconvenient.

In any case, feeding the belt back through the guide ensures full retraction.

Because the pasenger seat is further back than the drivers, it doesn't glide as easly though the guide at that angle. Sometimes it will even get jamed. I just made the mistake today of closing it on the buckle because I forgot to check after pulling out a booster seat. Your just going to have to make a habbit of checking it, and I know thats hard when you don't have a consistant pasenger.
