You are probably correct, ASmartMan. I was referring to legally and easily accessible manuals that are published for the masses. For those willing to search hard enough, there will always be a resource. I'm aiming for something that any owner can find and use with ease. If I tried your method I'm afraid I'd end up with an expensive computer and a bunch of disks and none of it would work. I'm a bit too stupid to attempt that.

The pictures and descriptions on the WIS discs are so bad they are unusable. They are only really any good if you sort of know what you are doing already and just need a bit of reassurance.

Hi Ron, Just thought I would write and let you know what I did. I was reading on the evilution website about dump valves for a smart. Companies have been selling them for the car but they have a 22mm opening which is too large for the smart and can damage the turbo. Forge Motorsports in the UK made one for Kane (evilution) to try that has a 12mm opening, which is the size the smart turbo requires, and he was saying it worked very well on his car. I called Forge in Florida and told them I wanted one but they didn't know about this 12mm one. They have been selling one for the smart but 22mm. I told them what I had read so they called their company in the UK and got me one. I installed it yesterday and it really made a difference in the speed of shifting, but even better response in the downshift and it virtually eliminates the lag that occurs when slowing down to turn a corner and then accelerating. I am going to test it for a week or two and if it continues to perform I will install one on my other smart. Aside from the improved shifting, they claim that a dump valve with the proper opening will increase the life of the turbo. Anyway I just wanted to let you know about this.. I'll keep you posted on how it works out.. Hope all is well with you and your family.

Ron, I forgot earlier to tell you that if anyone is interested in this valve kit, it costs 170.00 with shipping and the contact person at Forge Motorsports in Florida is Patrick. He will know all about the 12mm.

Was just wondering how the dump valve was working out. I am interested in getting one for my cdi smart and was just curious how it has been going??

I have mine remapped with a blindy exhaust and would like to get this dump valve if it really helps.

Any feedback would be appreciated. Also how long did it take for you to get the dump valve from forge in florida once you ordered it.

thanks

Ron aka JOKER

You can't fit a DV to a CDI, the engine works in a different way to a petrol engine. There is no plenum in the throttle body so it can't close so therefore no back pressure to vent.

Hi to all, I'm new here and waiting for my Smart (probably about 8-10 months out). I want to know if the dump valve can be installed by a "Shadetree" mechanic and if installation will affect the warantees? I'd also like more info on the sparkplugs that are supposed to increase mileage.

Thanks,

Jim

There are no dumpvalves for the 451 yet.
There was a problem with fitting a DV to the smart 454 (forfour) which had an engine made by mitsubishi, probably the same case here.

In 8 to 10 months, ask again, we'll know more.

Hi guy’s

Hey, I’ve been running the Evilution Forge valve design in my 06 450 for almost a year now and it’s working great. It doesn’t actually make as much of a discharge sound seeing the outlet was reduced in size (aka 12mm).

I really can’t attest to any performance changes either. FWIW I lived so many years with a blow off valve in my New Beetle TurboS (1.8T APR chipped) that I just had to add one in the Smart when I got it. I need to hear that sound … you know. Haha

Unending thanks to Kane for his contribution to this mod that (Peter) Forge followed up with… not only this one mod but all the wonderful stuff you’ve done for the Smart community.

BTW` You might not know who I am Kane. I was the one (first I believe) US contributor/supporter to your site that didn’t have any comment to post. Lol I really don’t recall not having anything to say (if you know me) but I didn’t really know I could say something (at that time) so I didn't. haha Well enough about that. Yikes, that sounds stupid.

Here’s a couple pics of my Forge BOV & Janspeed SS IC pipe(s)…

Oh, FYI I highly recommend you disconnect the lower crankcase breather tube from the TIK pipe if you're going to install a Blowoff valve. If you don't divert this, you'll be blowing off oil vapers out of your BOV and getting everything covered with it.

If you disconnect it (cap up the hole in the TIK, of course) everything will stay nice and clean (and dry) and you'll keep all those nasty hot oil vapers from coating your turbo, IC pipes and IC too... it just makes sense to do this mod IMO.

Kane can comment more on this and direct you to some info he has on his site regarding it.
