Black Italian Air Horn Mod, Offer to install them for you

If you live in the DC area, and would like to have the black Italian air horn from from Griot's Garage (really a Stebel) installed, I will install it for you.

What you need:

1. The air horn

2. A small bracket made (I can give you specs)

3. You bring car to me, I install with you helping/looking on.

4. Two hours time (most likely less).

I supply all tools.

Your cost: A bottle of Coke (so's I got some'n to drink while I work)

PM ME if interested.

I just swapped out the OEM horn for these horn, and I LOVE IT.

Did you go in through the wheel well or loosen the front panels and go in that way? I tried the wheel well approach with no success. And what's the new bracket for - I thought these horns would fit just fine on the original? Thanks!

I went in through the wheel well. The bracket is because I couldn't get it mounted using only the stock bracket. I was able to buy a bracket that I modified for use and a nut/bolt for $8, from a local car parts store.

Its possible I can get several brackets fabricated at work if I find the right metal stock. But in lieu of that, the specs I give you for the bracket are so I don't have to spend my time doing that. I'm providing free labor after all...

When I tried to install the horn I found that I could not install it using the stock bracket because I couldn't get the the horn level and the bolt through the bracket at the same time.

So, what I basically had to do was get a piece of metal about two inches long (1 inch wide and very flat) and drill two holes in it with the holes centered about 1 to 1.25 inches apart.

I then installed the new bracket with a bolt and a locking nut, and was able to then install the horn using the mount attached to the horn.

I was going to take a picture of everything, but by the time I had everything lined up so I could take some quick photos as I installed the horn, I found out at that time, that my camera battery was low and the camera would not let me snap any pics. Seeing as how I had three hours into the install, I was not about to wait for the battery to charge.

I hope this helps. I know that some people have managed to install the horn without the bracket, so maybe they will share what they did.

[Yellow-Smart

One quick question:

What is the diameter of the two holes you drilled?

Thanks!

Size of holes in new bracket

The holes I drilled were somewhere between a 1/4 to 3/8 inches. (maybe a little bigger, I didn't measure)

From CarQuest, I used the following parts to fabricate and install the new bracket:

CPE 39631 Ford Hydraulic Clutch Line Tool (I needed something flat)
MTM 44085 (Cap Screw)
MTM 44085 (Lock Nut)

Total of these parts was $7.26.

I drilled a second hole about 1 inch below the bolt hole in the clutch line tool so I could attach this thing to the OEM bracket. It was a very tight fit trying to reconnect the two wires, so if I had to do it over again I would space the holes about 1.25 inches apart.

You don't need to buy the CPE 39631 if you can find a flat piece of steel about 2 inches long by 1 inch wide that is flat.

I really hope this helps out.

Last points to make

Couple of other things.

1. I have the factory alarm system that chirps. Removing and replacing the horn did not affect the alarm chirping.

2. I did not install the relay.

No problem, it was fun. And, I need to do another car so I can get some photos this time for a DIY.
