The gauntlet has been thrown?

Howdy all

The gauntlet for having a REALLY LARGE gathering of smart cars has been thrown by a group from the other coast.

133 smarts participated in the Lombard Street gathering on Sunday.
(with pics in the gallery for documentation)

I think the Mid-Atlantic group can do better? (maybe 150+ smart cars?)

What say y'all?

Weigh in on your options for photo ops?
There have been suggestions of:

In front of Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, US Capitol, etc. (permits could be probelmatic?)
Parked ON the mall downtown (ditto permits)
Lined up 4 across down Pennsylvania or Constitution Ave? (permits)

Anything actually "in" DC might get the "blessing" (and help?) of Mayor Adrian Fenty (fellow smart driver?) (Has gotten invites to the July and Aug meets.)

Other ideas?
Skyline drive w/autumn colors (oct?)
C&O canal

Feedback from the west coast - - go for it!! It's alot of work (just ask the committee members), but it was a blast. You can do it!! Ours was very well organized and fun. You have some great sights (like our GG Bridge) to get fabulous pictures. See if you can get Penske or smart usa involved!! And post pics when you get them!!

!!!!!!! Maybe if we can't find a place "in" DC we could find a place that has DC in the background. However, If all the protesters and every other event can get on the mall I don't see why we couldn't. I'm not sure if they would have a wait list or not. I would assume so.

I think trying to contact the Mayor about it would help a lot too. Maybe he has a PR rep maybe?

I believe there also some employees at the White House that have one as well. Is it election time for the mayor as well? This could look good for him.

Well, I live in Canton, OHIO but I would be willing to drive to Washington DC for a rally! I couldn't make it to California for the last one but wouldn't want to miss another. Hopefully the timing would work for me. I will keep watching this chapter. Hope you wouldn't mind an outsider?
