As far as getting that perfect shot, there must be someone to contact @ National Park Service (NPS). If it doesn't work out for that shot in front of the Lincoln Memorial there's other spots.
In front of the Capitol there's a Parking Lot on Maryland Ave. beside the Botanical Gardens. Or across the pond on the other side is a Parking Lot on Pennsylvania Ave. Both Parking Lots are directly in front the Capitol. I can't think of any other spots right now.
Unless, U Smarties want to wake up early we could meet up and get parking spots on 7th Street where there's parking on the side of the street which is in the Middle of the Mall area. You can see the Washington Monument clearly in the background on one side and the Capitol on the other side.
Plus "JPaul" is right about morning photo shots. The photos will come out the best @ that time.
So does July 12th or 13th work for anybody else?
Yup that's a great photo. I used to work down by Judiciary Square so for now I don't know any other spots. Since you actually live in DC are there any other spots that you can list for our meet up or photo shoot??
There is also the weekend parking lot for the "new" Air Force Memorial (those three spires visible behind the Pentagon). The view from there should be stunning, with the Pentagon, the Mall and its Memorials and the Capitol in the background, across the Potomac.
But I have to go there one of these coming weekends to scout the place (possible clearance, weekdays limitations for sure since it's used by Pentagon's staff...). I'll keep you posted.
National Mall & Memorial Parks is a unique and bustling park visited by over 25 million visitors per year and issuing approximately 3000 permits per year. Welcome neonbrad! As you can see, we are trying to nail down the specs of the meet. I have not heard from TJ at Tysons smart center about meeting there... If someone could call the NPS about us driving and parking in 'special' spots in and around the mall that would be great as I am buried in work...
