SEPTEMBER Mid-Atlantic smart fest

We've had a GREAT time getting together the past two months!
So...any volunteers to organize a Meet & Greet for this next month? Any takers for September???? Maybe north or south of DC since we've done the west and east side.... Do I hear any volunteers?????

I been reading the posts for a DC meet, and that sounds like a really great idea for the month of September. I would strongly like to suggest the idea of a really good Smart Cruise for all to take part in much like that of the San Fran run i heard of where we all begin at one place say Arlington, or better yet Old Town Alexandira and then do a nice little drive down Constitution Ave and then wind up at various landmarks winding down and doing the mother of all photo shoots at the Lincon Memorail or even the Washington Monmunent. Id like to take a crack at this event as i know the city well. A saturday would work the best with the exception of the 20th How does that sound for an event. I know that there was a sole who sugessted a dine at the Metro Diner on route 29 in Arlington one time. That would be a perfect place to end the day Questions, comments, and eggs and tomatoes are welcomed.

I'll be in Tampa the last 2 weekends so I probably won't be able to attend a September M&G. I'll catch up with you all in October hopefully! Come on... we gotta get some volunteers going to arrange these things. It's not all that hard - just a few phone calls, posting on a couple of sites and tallying up the numbers...

I really want to do a Washington DC picture as well, however, I think to make it worth while (meaning the most cars we can get) September seems a little too close. In order to get permission to have all the smarts at a memorial, book a photog, and rally all the smart together will take weeks and maybe months . Let's also not forget the closer to election day the more crazy DC will become . I think the best way to go about this is to see what we need to do to get a permit for the day, if we can, where we can and what sort of date we can get. I would hate to have it in the dead of winter. I say if worse comes to worse we should hold off till Spring. I wouldn't want to rush things. I say if we do this we do it right.

You both have a very good point, with the elcection and all that plus there is the Presidnetial inaguration to think of in the month of January which we all know will be nuts with all the press, and whatever comes with that. If there are any takers to arrange whatever permits are needed, lets see who and what needs to happen say in the spingtime, really winter would not be a really great time to do a photo shoot. In the meantime, there is a place in Annandale called the Jukebox Diner that be a good loaction to do a Meet and Greet. The parking lot is huge, and I am sure the managers will not mind a little meet there as the muslcecars meet on a Friday id like to do this on a Saturday. I can see about making this a reality. If there are any other sugesstions, please, i am open for discussion.

I'll be watching the board to see when it is. I was late to the last meet and great, but I will make sure I get there early this time.

KISS - how about a "smart-nic?"

Why not keep it simple, set a time and place, tailgate around a some food ... some Moselle (smartville-Hambach) or Dinkelacker (Daimler-Stuttgart), sushi (Mitsubishi) , meet and greet, and enjoy the day?
parking won't be a problem!

Where!

We have so many great parks with recognizable national photo ops in the background! Great Falls park, the Mall, Columbia Island Marina, Belle Haven Marina, and the National Marina to name a few.

When!

September 13th while the weather is still nice...

Let's set this date and just do it. We can do a more organized one in the spring.

Thoughts?

26.2 (picking up in less than 10 hours )

I like the idea of a park. I attend other cruise-in events and half the fun is tailgating and hanging out in the lot with the cars. Another park that allows permited groups is Carderock near the amer legion bridge. But any park is ok in my book.

All it takes to set up a meet?

All it takes is for someone to step up and say

"This is when and where"

and then run with it?

I am working on a Skyline Drive cruise in mid Oct (see the changing leaves?)
