Skyline Drive EVENT Sat Oct 24

Greetings all

It is the time of year that the leaves on the Skyline Drive (Shenandoah National Park) are changing to wonderful colors.

Last year, I headed a smart tour and we had a bunch of fun.

Planning on doing it again this year.

Saturday Oct 24.

Depart from Tyson's Corner smart center at 6:30AM

"smart tube" (convoy) to Cracker Barrel Restaurant (15 Riverton Commons Plz
Front Royal, VA 22630-6768)

Meet at Cracker Barrel
7:30 - 9:00AM

Depart Cracker Barrel 9:00AM

smart tube to Skyline NORTH entrance

Meet at Skyline Drive NORTH entrance 9:30AM
(closest intersection for GPS) S Royal Ave & E Criser Rd, Front Royal, VA 22630

$15 per vehicle fee (sorry no half fee for smart cars I did ask)

Travel thru Skyline Drive periodically stopping for overlooks and potty breaks and lots of pics.

exit Skyline drive at Swift Run Gap (65 miles about mid point of the drive)

WARNING: If there are 20 (or more) vehicles, we will be required to split into smaller groups and have 15 min between groups (we will plan on that when we have to)

See next post for sign up details

Don't forget to GAS up BEFORE skyline?

Howdy all

Just a reminder, Skyline Drive is a VERY limited access area.

GAS UP BEFORE entering (had a few folks that forgot last year)?

Here is a site about fees. There are several options, including a one-year pass or senior discount (62+).

Thanks for the info. I am so psyched about the event. I was there last year and it was a blast.

Google maps of my intended route

Here is the route that I plan on following.

to: 38.357744,-78.545594 - Google Maps

After Swift Run Gap (stop E), you can continue south on Skyline for another 60+ miles (if you want to)

Or you can retrace the route back to the Front Royal entrance, but, in the interest of time, I will be exiting at Swift Run Gap and proceeding along Rt 29 back to I-66 and back to Northern Virginia.

Hope to see more folks signing up soon?
