Smart vs. deer - Smart wins

Last night we hit a deer (a doe) going 60 mph. We really did not feel the hit - just heard the noise. There are breaks in the right front quarter panel. We will not know the extent of the damage until we can get it to the dealership. We are waiting to hear from the insurance adjuster at this point. I will post further developments.

We are very impressed about how the car handled. Despite my flippant title, I feel pretty bad about the poor deer.

Same night as you I had to head home at around midnight. Counted 66 deer on a 15 mile stretch.

15 miles to the west there is another road that runs south to north (only other road because it is a military reservation), at the same time as I was driving on my stretch a woman on the other road hit a deer in a Sentra, lost control and flipped into the oncoming lane when the lights on the car went out. Two oncoming SUVs hit her, she recieved fatal injuries. One thing that went through my mind after I read the police report was that the smart hazard lights come on when something like that happens. That "could of" saved her.

How about pics of the damage to the smart?

Hope you kept the venison?

shame about hitting the deer
Glad all is well with you (no injuries)

Hope you kept the meat? I hit a deer a few years ago, and took the carcass to my local meat plant, had venison in my freezer (and for dinner) for several months. Folks asked "What happened to the deer?" "It was very tasty, thank you very much"

Photos in my gallery

I posted two photos. One of the damage to the right front bumper and another showing the Smart going up on the tow truck.

The estimate of the damage is $1120. The bumper is has to be replaced as well as the headlamp assembly. It looks like they will also replace the fender. I have asked the manager of the dealership's auto body shop to look at this again. They have done some things that has caused me to loose faith in them. I have been without the Smart for two weeks now! Some of it is understandable but a lot of it has to do with their screw-ups. I will discuss this more later.
