Toby, here's some info on the "factory" smart nav system: Evilution - Smart Car Encyclopaedia

Keep in mind this is available in the EU, not the USA, and probably not compatible with the radios we get here. The site also notes the actual GPS model shown is not clear.

Yep. I agree about Garmin. I have a Nuvi 750, and so does my wife. We use NavMats to mount them on, and simply place the NavMat on the dash. If we're somewhere that looks a little "iffy", we take the GPS with us, unplug everything, and stow away the NavMat out of sight. That way, no "tell-tale" rings on the windshield to tell thieves that there's probably a GPS inside the car somewhere!

Thanks, JWight! I sent off an email requesting whether they sell the custom mount without the GPS. I like the way it automatically mutes the radio to give voice NAV directions. Very cool.

I'll share whatever feedback I receive.
