Michigan smart accidents

A friend who lives south of Kalamazoo got a call from his wife this morning that a smart car was involved in an accident on the freeway. Seems that the car was following closely behind a large truck and then lost control after swerving a bit. She says the car flipped over and landed on its roof (she was a witness when the state police came by). Luckily the driver was not hurt seriously.

I have had my smart for about 6 weeks and driven a few hundred miles on the freeways during nasty snowy conditions but found that the car is stable although subject to wind gusts. Since I mostly drive in town the issue of high speed driving is not a serious consideration for me and when driving any car road conditions need to be considered.

Just like ANY vehicle, leave plenty of room between yourself and other vehicles.
That is a huge problem, in my opinion, here in the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan area...

Probably drafting the truck to try to get the gas mileage up to where the owner thought it should be.

That is very sad to hear. Please keep us posted and let us know if there is anything we can do as a site and community!

Sorry my bad!

SOrry for starting this thread. It turns out this was a hoax. My friend's wife thought she was funny when she called him at work to tell him this.

What really happened: A fellow in a white smart was traveling on I-94 near Kalamazoo and she noticed that he was being buffeted by winds behind a large truck and was swerving a bit. He did not have an accident or flip over.

She became imaginative and thought it would get a rise out of me when she made up the accident part.

Yes I agree. Tailgating happens more often in Maryland than in Virginia.

You misunderstand, my remarks are directed at the woman who thought making up the story of an accident was a funny hoax.

Phew! Glad this was just a hoax! I'm sure the topic of this thread will get a lot of attention though.
