Michigan smart Owners Group - INTERESTED?
Calling all Michigan (and surrounding area) smarties. There has been interest expressed in starting a local owners group and we'd like to hear from all owners and waiters.
Bob_Parr started things a few weeks ago and some of us got together for a meet and greet. Discussion centered on ideas of get togethers, road trips, etc. TNT0604 is a member of the MINI owners group and has many great ideas for enjoying our new smarts.
I have talked with Rick Cortright, General Manager of smart center Bloomfield, and he expressed interest in and a willingness to support the efforts of a local group. A few ideas discussed were a possible use of the dealership for meetings, tech seminars, body panel swaps, etc. He also said he would contact the people that they have already delivered cars to and inform them of the forming of this owners group and provide contact information, as not all are members here.
Lets hear your ideas and level of interest, and get this thing going. Feel free to post in this thread or pm me with your thoughts.
Regards,
Roger
p.s. My Jan 17th delivery Blue/Silver/Beige cabrio now has passed the 2000 mile mark, and I'm enjoying it more each day.

MI Group
I like the idea of a Michigan Area group. However, I would also like to add that Michigan is a very large place and I would encourage that such a group not always have ALL their meetings at the same place simply because while it would be great for those living near that location, it would also be a detriment to those who had to travel several hours to get there. So, if some scheme could be worked out so that every so often everybody had to travel to a new location to meet, it would probably get more people to join also give everybody a chance to show their smarties to different parts of the state in a cluster grouping. For instance, Bloomfield Hills would be reasonable, but then it would be nice to hold a meeting in Lansing, or Grand Rapids, or Kalamazoo, or Midland, etc. Even if it was an every other month arrangement or once a quarter, it would be much more fair than some of us having to log thousands of miles and others just driving down the block.
I still want to be a part of the group, but location, location, location might determine how many meetings I can make a year.

Fancy, Pantsie, Bloomfield not for us.
Like Harley, we want to Ride, Ride, Ride. Go in a group. Wear our SCOA jackets and walk in a coffee joint and look mean.
We got Smart cars. Lets travel.

HD & a2 -
Thanks for the response guys, I was hoping you'd be in. HD you have a good point about trying to make meetings available to folks all over the state. I think certain activities like a tech seminar or panel swap would be better served at the dealership, but as a2 says - Let's Ride.
I know there are already owners all over the state - Traverse City, Grand Rapids, Kzoo, Grand Haven. It might be fun to organize meets at these locations for a sampling of the local roads and watering holes.
Keep the ideas coming guys.
