Hey Dan,

My boyfriend lives in Detroit and we've been discussing coming to the Woodward Dream Cruise. It'd be so awesome to meet up with some smarties while we're there. I don't know the first thing about where you could stay and he's new to the area, but I'll see if he can ask some of his coworkers for suggestions!

I'll get back to you about it in the next couple days. You'll also get to see my kick ass new paint job if we are able to meet up.

,
Macy

***The guys at University of Detroit Mercy say that Southfield is the best place to go for hotels and they have some deals on 4 hotels in that area. If you want to PM me the info on what kind of room you'll need and how many days, my boyfriend can get room rates for you for that weekend.***

The cruise goes all up and down Woodward, from Detroit to Pontiac. As far as lodging goes there are a lot of options depending on your price range and what else you might want to do while your here.

When you come here keep in mind that Michigan Hates everyone, and we therefore keep at least part of I-75 closed at all times, and give you a obscene detour. I would suggest the southfield freeway instead of their detour, or take surface streets.

Now I will plug the 'best spots', and no I'm actually not affiliated with any of them.

As for the cruise the best place IMHO is Birmingham area. Good walking area, lots of restaurants and stores. And all the rich people live there so you get the best cars. They also have large sections zoned off for cars that are too classic to risk driving with all those crazy people to be parked for your enjoyment. Also check out Bakers Square Restaurant and Pie, the food is so-so, but they have tons of different pie, which is all excellent.

If you want to see a concert while your here DTE energy music theatre(pine knob) and the palace have lots of concerts, and there are a lot of hotels in Auburn Hills(of varying price range). You should also check out Spargo's Coney Island and Greek food. It's also just a quick drive to brimingham.

If your interested in going to the Zoo head to Royal Oak, they also have a nice setup to watch the cars nice main street near woodward to shop, eat, hit the other Spargo's. For Hotel's near there check out Madison Heights.

If you want to gamble there are the casino's in Downton Detroit now, but a lot of the Hotel's are expensive down there.

Southfield is a cheap place to stay, and it's kinda in the middle of everything.

Thanks, and keep the ideas and info coming can never have too many options. I was thinking of camping some where, If there is some where within 100miles. Or if anyone else is going and would like to meet perhaps a bunch of us could stay at the same hotel.

I'd love to meet up, but I'll be staying at my boyfriend's place. We could possibly meet up Saturday somewhere along the way though. Have you figured out when you're meeting up with Matt to see the smartbusa? I'd love to tag along to that if it's alright.

The Woodward Dream Cruise is - THE MACK DADDY of them all.

The area begins to load midweek (people actually have their cars/bikes shipped in and fly in for the event) prior to the cruise weekend. Folks line the route with lawn chairs and such and many parking lots become event venues with static displays and private parties.

Woodward Dream Cruise - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The cruise has been tamed down over recent years and smoking the tires (not a smart problem) will cost you a big ticket! Previously, the cruise had a life of it's own, now the police take charge at about 10 and begin to divert traffic so as to end the cruise for the evening.

If you are a gearhead and love muscle cars it is a fun, must see event!
