4smartcar.com - NOT RECOMMENDED

Hey folks, if you haven't ordered from 4smartcar.com DON'T DO IT. I placed an order on 8/21 and haven't yet received it. They make NO ATTEMPT to update their web site to indicate the item is out of stock or back ordered and they make NO ATTEMPT to contact us with current information. They have had my $374 since 8/21 with no product in sight, or any information. Their 800 number is not answered and goes directly to voice mail.

As of this time and date I am not sure they are still in business. I may have lost my money.

No need for you to suffer the same fate.

Use caution....

Here's the story...

I ordered a single bike rack on 8/21. On the site it showed they would start shipping on 8/20. The day before I placed the order. Uh, no. I called the day after I placed the order to find out they were closed for the next week while in Las Vegas to show off their custom smart car. Unbelievable. I called Al & Ed's and someone there called the guy in charge at the car show. He told her to tell me I could have a refund or wait a week or so for the rack to ship. I mistakenly took the option of waiting. Ten days ago I called and talked to Elie at 4smartcar. Elie told me they would ship "tomorrow or the next day", there had been a production change. Ok. Now, it's the 12th and they have had my money since the 21st with no product and no attempt by them to update their site or contact me to let me know what's going on. I called their 800 number and it goes directly to voice mail. The on-site order shows received and nothing else.

I'm afraid they have gone out of business and I just lost my money... so I thought I would caution whomever I could so they wouldn't try to do business until I hear from them, if ever.

If you used a credit card you should be able to contest the charges via your card company.

I'm here in SoCal and I've been over to their shops. They are doing well and seem to be well capitalized. I understand your frustration, but from what I've seen, these guys are far from going out of business. You may just have to wait a bit more before this is resolved.

Have you checked smartmadness.com? they have a bike rack.

Yes, the debit hit my account the day of ordering, and the rack has not been shipped, however I do have an update.

Elie called yesterday morning (Saturday) and spoke with my wife. He said the racks are ready to be shipped but they were waiting on the manuals to be printed. He thinks they will be delivered on "Monday or Tuesday" and the racks will be shipped as soon as the manuals can be thrown into the boxes.

He said the rack should be delivered by the end of the week. If I haven't heard from them by Wednesday I will try again. HOWEVER, this is the first time Elie has offered any explanation without me, the customer, calling them to find out what's going on. He said they are a small operation, etc...

At this point I am giving him the benefit of the doubt, whether he deserves it or not.

I likely won't order from this company again and certainly can't encourage anyone else to.
