Airbag Sticker (on visor) Removal

Has anyone removed the Airbag Warning Sticker from their sun visors? While the sticker's message is an important one, after owning the car for over 6 months now, I'm growing tired of this ugly label. I would prefer to now remove the warning label - along with all the gooey glue - so that the visors are pristine looking. Any experiences worth sharing?
Cheers,
Jeff

Peeled mine off the glove box with no problem. I don't notice any residual glue or discoloration at this point. I think it was noticeable initially, you could see the outline of the label. I'll have to look after work and see if I've just become desensitized to it or if it has actually faded. I didn't remove the visor labels.

i used a hair dryer and a little "goo-gone" to clean up. If you get it too hot, the vinyl will stretch.

I completely removed my visor stickers today. I tested every solvent and cleaner that I had and Goo Gone is by far the most effective. You will have to use your fingernails to help scrape off the adhesive. It's slow going, but it does all come off.

After removing the stickers I found sticky goo left behind. I then unscrewed and removed the visors from the car. I used WD-40 to get the sticky goo off and then soap and water to remove residual WD-40. I was concerned that Goo Gone would damage the surface of the plastic. Sounds like this is not a problem. The plastic is still slightly indented where the sticker was.

same here...it took some time to scrape all the little bits off, but i'm glad those stickers are gone. you can't even tell on mine that they were ever there.

definitely take the visors off the car though, or it would be just about impossible to get all the sticker goo off.

Thanks to all for the input. I completed the removal of both stickers this afternoon in less time than Huey Lewis' 'Small World' album... and that includes the removal of both visors. I was a little timid about using hot air on the vinyl, so opted instead to simply push the goo with my fingers to the center. Then followed up with some near-100% isopropyl alcohol to clean up the residue.

Both visors look great – no discoloration or distorted vinyl. Have no idea why I didn’t do this before! If you haven’t peeled those stickers off, I would recommend seriously considering it.

Cheers,
Jeff

I never noticed the stickers. I'm tall enough that the roof works like a sun visor for me, so I never have them down. Good to know it's possible to do though if I wanted to. Thanks for the info!

Am I missing something to remove the visors to make the stcker removing easier? I duly found the right sized Allen key and removed the 2 screws holding the visor mount to the ceiling. I expected the visor to come off easily after that but it did not. There seems to be bits of plastic hooking that mount onto the ceiling. I wiggled and wiggled but nothing gave.
I must admit I am quite the newbie taking bits off cars......and my Smart is brand new so I did not want to hurt it.
Any tips?

So far, so good. Once the two Torx (not Allen) screws are removed, gently pull the visor shaft down while jiggling it a bit. There are a couple of little tabs that hold the visor assembly in place. I, too, was also a bit hesitant when I took out the first visor. These seem rather robust so I do not envision them breaking easily.

They are actually quite convenient as these little tabs hold the assembly in place while you fumble to replace the two Torx screws. Do not be fearful of pulling the visor assembly down, once the two screws are removed. And it will make a ‘snap’ sound as it is removed. At that moment, mentally quite distressing but physically no harm. Once you get a look at the tabs on the removed visor assembly, it'll be one of those 'Ah-ha' moments and you'll attack the second visor with assurance!

Also, use only Goo-Gone, WD-40 or isopropyl alcohol. I do *not* recommend acetone; it may craze the vinyl.

Cheers,
Jeff
